Today is one of the most important acclimatization days on the climb. After breakfast, you’ll hike east across the Shira Plateau before gradually ascending toward Lava Tower (4,630m), a striking volcanic formation. Lunch is taken near Lava Tower, giving your body valuable time to adjust to the higher altitude. From there, the trail descends into the Barranco Valley, a dramatic landscape with towering cliffs and giant Senecio plants. Although you end the day at a similar elevation to the previous night (3,960m), the “climb high, sleep low” approach greatly improves acclimatization. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.

The trek is shorter today, designed to further aid acclimatization. You’ll arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m) by early afternoon, leaving time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the push to higher elevations. Dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp.
