Arusha to Marangu Gate – Trek to Mandara Hut

After breakfast in Arusha, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and final preparations before starting your climb. Once formalities are complete, begin your trek through the lush, tropical rainforest of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail ascends gradually, offering a peaceful walk beneath a dense green canopy filled with birdsong and rich vegetation. After several hours of hiking, you will arrive at Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop on the mountain.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After leaving Mandara Hut, the trail gradually transitions from lush rainforest into the expansive heather and moorland zone. As you ascend, the scenery opens up, revealing sweeping views, volcanic rock formations, and unique high-altitude vegetation. The hike continues at a steady pace across rolling terrain until you reach Horombo Hut, located on the scenic slopes below the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today is an important acclimatization stage as you leave Horombo Hut and continue ascending toward Kibo Hut. The landscape gradually changes into a dry, alpine desert with fewer vegetation and more volcanic terrain. The trek is steady but increasingly demanding as altitude increases. You will reach Kibo Hut at 4,703m, where you take time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the final summit push.

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Hut

Your summit attempt begins around midnight as you leave Kibo Hut and begin the most demanding section of the climb. The trail is steep and challenging, with cold temperatures and thin air, but every step brings you closer to the Roof of Africa.
At sunrise, you reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, you celebrate your achievement while enjoying breathtaking views over glaciers, crater rims, and the vast African plains below. After taking photos and spending time at the summit, you begin your descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing further down to Horombo Hut for your overnight stay.

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Return to Arusha

After breakfast at Horombo Hut, begin your final descent through the lush rainforest zone toward Marangu Gate. The trail is scenic and refreshing, filled with birdsong and rich vegetation as you make your way back to lower altitude.
Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, you will receive your official summit certificate, marking your successful ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. After celebrations and farewells with your mountain crew, transfer back to Arusha for a well-deserved rest. In the evening, enjoy a special dinner to celebrate your incredible achievement on Africa’s highest mountain.
