Ngorongoro crater to central serengeti

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most remarkable natural attractions in Africa and one of the highlights of any Tanzanian safari. Located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania, the crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is often described as a natural wildlife sanctuary. Formed about two to three million years ago after a massive volcano collapsed, the crater today measures approximately 19 kilometers (12 miles) in diameter and covers an area of about 260 square kilometers. The crater floor is a beautiful landscape of open grasslands, freshwater springs, acacia forests, and a large alkaline lake called Lake Magadi. This diverse environment provides ideal habitats for many species of wildlife and birds. The grasslands support large herds of grazing animals such as zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, and buffalo, while the forested areas are home to elephants, monkeys, and many bird species.

Central serengeti national park

The region is famous for its incredible number of predators. Lions are commonly seen resting on kopjes or hunting in the open plains, while leopards are often found lounging in the branches of acacia trees along riverbanks. Cheetahs can frequently be spotted scanning the plains for prey, making the Central Serengeti one of the best places in Tanzania to observe these elegant hunters. Other predators such as hyenas and jackals are also common in this rich ecosystem.

In addition to predators, the Central Serengeti hosts large populations of herbivores. Visitors may encounter elephants moving through the savannah, large herds of buffalo grazing in the grasslands, and giraffes gracefully walking among the acacia trees.
