Nandara hut

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins at Marangu Gate, where you’ll register and meet your experienced mountain guide and team. The trek starts through a lush rainforest, filled with colobus monkeys, tropical birds, and giant ferns.

The well-maintained trail gently ascends, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature and the fresh mountain air. After about 4–5 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop.

At Mandara, relax with hot tea and a warm meal, then take a short walk to the Maundi Crater for beautiful views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding forests.

Horombo hut

After breakfast at Mandara Hut, you’ll begin your hike through beautiful montane forest, which soon gives way to open moorland filled with giant lobelias and groundsels. The air becomes cooler and the views expand as you climb higher.

The trail offers stunning panoramas of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, two of Kilimanjaro’s majestic summits. Your guide will keep a steady pace, helping you adjust to the higher altitude.

After 5–6 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Horombo Hut, where you can relax, enjoy a hearty dinner, and watch a breathtaking sunset over the African plains below.

Horombo is a lively camp where climbers heading up and down the mountain often meet and share stories — a perfect place to rest and prepare for the next day.

Marangu gate

After an early breakfast at Horombo Hut, you’ll begin your final descent down Kilimanjaro. The journey starts across the heather and moorland, offering your last clear views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, then gradually enters the lush rainforest zone filled with bird calls and the rustling of colobus monkeys.

You’ll stop for lunch and a short rest at Mandara Hut, enjoying the cool forest breeze before continuing your gentle descent to Marangu Gate. The hike typically takes 6 to 7 hours, depending on pace and weather conditions.

At Marangu Gate, you’ll sign out with park authorities and receive your certificate of achievement—a proud moment marking your successful Kilimanjaro adventure. Your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi or Marangu village, where you can celebrate your accomplishment with a refreshing drink, a warm shower, and fond memories of Africa’s tallest mountain.
