Tarangire is also known for its incredible birdlife, with more than 500 bird species recorded in the park. Bird enthusiasts can spot colorful species such as hornbills, kingfishers, and the impressive ostrich. In addition, the park supports unique wildlife such as the fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk, animals that are not commonly seen in other northern Tanzania parks.
Another unique aspect of Tarangire is the Tarangire River, the park’s main water source. During the dry season, this river becomes a vital lifeline for wildlife, attracting large numbers of animals such as elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and antelopes.
