Early in the morning, take a flight from Addis Ababa to Semera Airport. Upon arrival, drive directly to Hamed Ela base camp, passing through the dramatic landscapes of the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth.
Visit the surreal Dallol geothermal area, famous for its colorful mineral formations, salt pillars, and acidic pools. Continue to Lake Assale, a vast salt lake lying below sea level, where you can observe traditional salt extraction.
Overnight: Camping at Hamed Ela.

Day 2
Hamed Ela – Erta Ale Volcano
Hamed Ela – Erta Ale Volcano
Early in the morning, visit the traditional rock-salt mining area, where Afar people extract salt by hand. After breakfast, drive via Dodome village to the base of Erta Ale Volcano.
In the late afternoon, begin the hike to the summit. At sunset, witness the spectacular lava lake and active craters of Erta Ale, one of the world’s few continuously active volcanoes. Experience the glowing lava under the night sky.
Overnight: Open-air camping near the crater.

Day 3
Erta Ale – Lake Afdera – Semera – Addis Ababa
Erta Ale – Lake Afdera – Semera – Addis Ababa
Early in the morning, climb the mountain, walk around Erta Ale craters, and view the active volcano at sunrise. After breakfast, drive to Lake Afdera, where you can swim and wander around the salt pans surrounding the lake. In the afternoon, drive to the airport of Semera, the capital of Afar, and fly back to Addis Ababa.
