3-Day Mount Meru Climb

Momela Gate to Miriakamba Hut

We’ll begin the day by driving from Moshi to Momela Gate. After registering at the gate, our walk will begin alongside fully armed rangers. We will have the opportunity to see a variety of wild animals along the way, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and elephants. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Miriakamba Hut (2500m). Total walking time today will be about five-to-seven hours.

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short but steep climb. Our journey will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After a hot lunch at the Saddle Hut, we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3820m) for superb views just before sunset. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Saddle Hut. The journey from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3500m) takes about three-to-five hours.

Saddle Hut to the Summit

We will start very early (around 1:30am) to make the steep climb up to Rhino Point (3800m) and onwards to Cobra Point (4350m). We will reach the summit (4566m) in time for the sunrise. You may be able to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridge line between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater.

We will take a short rest and have brunch at the Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Momella Gate. Our transfer vehicle will be waiting at Momella Gate to take you back to Arusha.
