Day 2
Walking Safari& Canoe Ride in Arusha National Park
Walking Safari& Canoe Ride in Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park sits at the foot of Mount Meru and covers a surprisingly varied stretch of terrain for its size – rainforest, open savannah and the Momella Lakes within a single day's reach. It's also one of the few parks in Tanzania where walking safaris are permitted.
The morning starts on foot with an armed ranger. Giraffe, buffalo and warthog move through the acacia woodland largely undisturbed, and at 20 to 30 metres the proximity feels different than it does from a vehicle. After around an hour and a half, you'll continue to the Momella Lakes – a reliable spot for flamingo, pelican, ibis and hornbill, among more than 200 recorded species.
The lakes are also where you'll switch from vehicle to canoe. Two hours on the water gives a different perspective entirely – buffalo, antelope and giraffe occasionally approach the shore, and the birdlife is easier to observe at this pace. In clear weather, Mount Meru rises behind it all.

Day 3
Explore Mto wa Mbu Village with the Locals
Explore Mto wa Mbu Village with the Locals
Your morning is spent in Mto wa Mbu, a market town at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment with an unusually rich cultural texture – more than 120 tribal communities have settled here over generations, and that mix shows in the market, the food, and the crafts.
On foot with your guide, you'll move through the village at an easy pace – past traditional homesteads, through the local market, and into a banana plantation where the variety of what grows here, and the ingenuity of how it's used, tends to catch people off guard. Local artists will walk you through their painting traditions, and woodcarvers will explain the significance behind the forms they work with – the kind of detail that's easy to miss without someone to translate it.
You'll be at your next lodge by lunch, with the afternoon to yourself.
By lunch, you’ll be taken back to your lodge. Time to relax and soak in the breathtaking views. Get ready for the next day full of adventure in the most unique safari spot!

Day 4
Classic Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater
Classic Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater
An early start gets you into the crater before the morning light fades. The descent takes around 30 minutes through forest, with a viewpoint stop at the rim before the caldera floor opens up below. The crater holds one of the highest concentrations of wildlife per square kilometre on the continent – elephant, buffalo, zebra, lion and a small resident population of black rhino, all within a single enclosed landscape. Cheetah are present too, though less predictable. The permanent water and grazing keep most animals here year-round, which gives the day a particular reliability. A mid-morning stop at Lake Magadi is worth the pause – hippos surface near the shore, and yellow-billed kites tend to take an interest in any food left unattended. The crater has held UNESCO World Heritage status since 1979.

Day 5
Hiking in Empaakai Crater - Off-the-Beaten Path
Hiking in Empaakai Crater - Off-the-Beaten Path
Empakai is one of those places that rewards the effort of getting there. A caldera within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, it encircles a lake on its floor – and the trail down to it winds through dense montane forest, past strangler figs that have been growing here far longer than any safari itinerary. The descent is steep in places, but well within reach.
At the lakeshore, the atmosphere shifts entirely. Water birds congregate along the edges, and during certain seasons flamingos move through – though their timing, as ever, is their own. Above it all, the rim offers a long view out over the Great Rift Valley that puts the morning's walk in perspective.
You'll be back at the lodge with time to rest before tomorrow, when we move on to the Serengeti.

Day 6
Visit Olduvai Gorge & Game Drive in Serengeti's Seronera
Visit Olduvai Gorge & Game Drive in Serengeti's Seronera
Your drive to the Serengeti passes through the broader Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, Maasai villages dot the roadside, and giraffe or zebra may appear in the distance.
Halfway, you'll stop at Olduvai Gorge. This is where Mary and Louis Leakey uncovered some of the earliest evidence of human existence, effectively placing East Africa at the origin of our species. The museum Mary Leakey founded on site puts the discoveries in context, and a guide will walk you through the history of the excavations. If no active dig is underway, you can descend to the gorge floor and stand where the finds were made.
After a picnic lunch at the gorge, the road continues into the Serengeti – Tanzania's largest park and, for many, the one that defines what a safari looks like. Lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra and a range of antelope are reliable presences. Cheetah and the more elusive serval are here too, if the timing is right.

Day 7
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park
No two days in the Serengeti follow the same pattern. The kopjes – ancient granite outcrops scattered across the Seronera landscape – are worth time on their own: lion and leopard use them as resting points through the heat of the day, and the light on the rock in the early hours is good for photography.

Day 8
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park
The final morning in Seronera covers ground the first didn't reach. Your guide will move through different sections, following sightings and adjusting as the day unfolds – leopard, serval and caracal are all present and worth the patience they sometimes require.
The drive back to Arusha passes through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Maasai villages line the road, and giraffe or zebra may appear in the distance – a transfer, but one with its own quiet interest.
