Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut

Your journey begins at Momella Gate, where park registration takes place. Accompanied by an armed ranger, the trek starts through open grasslands and forest where wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, and monkeys can often be seen. The trail gradually ascends through beautiful scenery before reaching Miriakamba Hut for your overnight stay.

Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Forest / Grassland.

Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut

After breakfast, continue climbing through dense forest and moorland vegetation. The trail becomes steeper as you approach Saddle Hut, located below Little Meru Peak. Along the way you will enjoy impressive views of the Meru Crater and surrounding landscapes. After arrival, an optional hike to Little Meru can be done for acclimatization.

Habitat: Moorland.

Saddle Hut – Summit – Miriakamba Hut

Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Trek along a narrow ridge with breathtaking views as the sun rises over Mount Kilimanjaro. Reach Socialist Peak (4,566 m), the highest point of Mount Meru. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Saddle Hut for rest and then continue down to Miriakamba Hut.

Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
Habitat: Alpine / Forest.

Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate

After breakfast, descend through the beautiful rainforest back to Momella Gate. Wildlife sightings are common along this trail. Upon arrival, receive your trekking certificate before transferring back to Arusha or your hotel.

Hiking Time: 2–4 hours.
