Under the Shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro - Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

Under the Shadow of Kilimanjaro — Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Your safari begins at 8:00 am with a private pick-up from your Nairobi hotel. Board your custom 4x4 safari jeep and head south through the sweeping Maasai plains of Kajiado, watching red-cloaked herders move cattle across the acacia-dotted landscape. Arrive at Sopa Amboseli Lodge around midday for check-in and lunch — if the skies are clear, your first glimpse of Mt Kilimanjaro from the lodge grounds is a moment that stops you in your tracks. Rest through the afternoon heat before your private guide collects you at 3:30 pm for your first game drive. The late afternoon light is magical in Amboseli — elephant herds move toward the swamps, predators stir, and the mountain glows gold behind them. End the day with sundowners on the plains before returning to the lodge for dinner under a star-filled sky.

Elephants, Mountain and Lake Amboseli - Game drives

Rise at dawn for an early morning game drive — Amboseli's finest hour. Kilimanjaro stands fully revealed above the clouds as elephant families move through the swamps in their hundreds. This is the world's greatest park for elephant viewing, and your private guide knows the herds intimately. Stop mid-morning for a bush breakfast set against the mountain before continuing through the park's key wildlife zones. Back at the lodge for lunch and a midday rest, then out again at 3:30 pm for the afternoon game drive when lions, cheetah, zebra, buffalo, hippo, giraffe and hyena take centre stage. Expect sightings of over 400 bird species too. Every hour in Amboseli with Kilimanjaro as your backdrop is one you will carry home.

From Elephant Kingdom to Flamingo Shore - Amboseli - Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast at Sopa Lodge, your private guide loads up the jeep and you depart Amboseli, carrying memories of the mountain as you head north through the Great Rift Valley toward Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive at the iconic Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, sitting inside the park with sweeping views over the lake and forest below, in time for a warm welcome and lunch.
At 3:30 pm, your afternoon game drive begins — and Lake Nakuru wastes no time. This park is Kenya's celebrated rhino sanctuary, home to both black and white rhino, making it one of the best places on the continent to tick the rare Big Five member off your list. As the sun drops, thousands of flamingos paint the lakeshore in shades of pink, while pelicans, cormorants and African fish eagles command the water's edge. Lions, leopard, Rothschild giraffe, waterbuck and Cape buffalo round out an extraordinary first evening in the park.

Rift Valley to Endless Savanna - Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara

Wake early for a final morning game drive inside Lake Nakuru National Park — one last chance to track rhino through the acacia forest and watch the flamingo-lined shore glow in the morning light. At 9:00 am your guide points the jeep west and the long drive to the Maasai Mara begins, cutting through the Rift Valley escarpment and rolling Maasai highlands. The landscape grows wilder with every kilometre. Arrive at Sopa Maasai Mara Lodge in time for lunch — settle in, take in the sweeping savannah views from your room, and let the anticipation build. At 3:30 pm your private game drive rolls out onto the endless Mara plains. Lions own the late afternoon here. Cheetah scan the horizon. Elephant and buffalo move in the golden light. This is the safari you came to Kenya for — and it is only just beginning.

Day 5

The Mara has No Clocks - Explore the Plains of Maasai Mara

The Mara has No Clocks - Explore the Plains of Maasai Mara

Today belongs entirely to the Maasai Mara. Rise before dawn and head straight into the reserve as the first light breaks over the savannah — this is when the Mara is at its most electric. Lions return from a night hunt, cheetah mothers lead cubs across open ground, and elephant herds move silently through the golden grass. Your private guide reads the land expertly, tracking movement across the reserve's key wildlife zones. Mid-morning bush breakfast in the heart of the park, then continue deeper into the reserve as the action unfolds around you. At midday your guide sets up a picnic lunch in the wild — tables, chairs and a proper meal served in the open bush with nothing but the Mara around you. No lodges, no walls, just Africa at your table. The afternoon game drive continues straight from lunch — predators are active, the light turns cinematic, and the plains never run out of surprises. Sundowners on the savannah as the sky turns amber, then return to Sopa Lodge.

Into the Maasai Culture & Return to Nairobi

Into the Maasai Culture & Return to Nairobi

Wake early for one final sunrise over the Maasai Mara before the journey home begins. After breakfast at Sopa Lodge, your guide takes you for an immersive visit to a traditional Maasai village, a highlight that stays with guests long after the wildlife sightings fade. Be welcomed into the boma by red-cloaked warriors, watch the iconic adumu jumping dance, step inside a traditional mud-and-thatch home, and browse the vibrant handcrafted jewellery and beadwork made by village women. Your guide translates stories of Maasai customs, cattle culture and the deep connection this ancient community holds with the land and its wildlife. It is a rare, human moment in a safari full of extraordinary encounters. After the village visit, board your private jeep and begin the scenic drive north through the Rift Valley escarpment back to Nairobi, arriving at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the afternoon, your bags packed, your camera full, and the Mara calling you back already.
