Amboseli to Lake Naivasha

Drive to Lake Naivasha in the morning, the highest and one of the most beautiful lakes in the Great Rift Valley. Sitting at about 1,910 meters (6,200 feet) above sea level, the lake is fringed with lush papyrus and features fresh water—once used by ancient Egyptians to make paper.
The area is a haven for birdlife, with over 400 species recorded. Herons forage among the papyrus, while kingfishers perch along the shoreline. Lake Naivasha is also a popular weekend escape for Nairobi residents, offering activities such as sailing, water skiing, and fishing. Due to the cooler temperatures at this altitude, the lake is home to many hippos, while crocodiles are rarely found here.

The Masai Mara is one of the few places on earth where wildlife still exists in numbers comparable to the vast herds that once roamed Africa’s plains and woodlands. It is also the northernmost part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem and the stage for the spectacular seasonal migration of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and their predators.

After breakfast, set out for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch in the reserve. The Masai Mara is one of the best places to spot the Big Five, and it is especially known for its black-maned lions and abundant resident wildlife.
Cheetahs are often seen in the open plains and can be remarkably relaxed, sometimes seeking shade under safari vehicles or using elevated spots to scan for prey. The reserve is also a paradise for bird lovers, with nearly 500 recorded species, including sunbirds, storks, eagles, vultures, as well as various hawks and falcons.
