Day 1

Nairobi to the foot of Kilimanjaro, Welcome to Amboseli National Park

Nairobi to the foot of Kilimanjaro, Welcome to Amboseli National Park

Your East African adventure begins at 6:00 AM, when your private driver-guide will collect you from your Nairobi hotel and set off southward toward the Kenyan-Tanzanian border.

Your destination is Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most celebrated and iconic wildlife destinations. Nestled at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, Amboseli’s wide-open plains provide the perfect stage for one of nature’s great spectacles: immense elephant herds moving unhurriedly across the savannah as Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped summit rises behind them.

You'll spend the full day inside the park, immersed in the extraordinary Amboseli ecosystem. Lunch is served at the lodge, and the afternoon game drives continue as your guide navigates the park's open grasslands and swampy areas. As the sun begins its descent and the last golden light catches the summit of Kilimanjaro, you'll make your way back to the lodge for a well-earned dinner and overnight stay.

The road itself is a game drive, with wildlife frequently spotted along the way as the landscape shifts and the border draws closer. It is a uniquely thrilling experience, crossing from one country into another with nothing but open wilderness around you.

At the Namanga Border, your Tanzanian driver-guide will be waiting to welcome you and take over for the next leg of your journey. From here, it is approximately a two-hour drive to Arusha, Tanzania's safari capital, a vibrant and lively city nestled between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Lunch is served in Arusha, giving you a chance to stretch your legs, enjoy a delicious meal.
