Transfer Kigali to Musanze - Ibere Rya Bigogwe

After your breakfast in Kigali, you will meet our driver-guide and drive from Kigali in a 4x4 safari vehicle. Heading northwest through rolling terraced hills, with the air growing crisp as you reach the Nyabihu District.

By 09:00 AM: You arrive at the Bigogwe community office on the Rubavu-Nyabihu border. Meet your local guide for a briefing before beginning the hike to the iconic Ibere rya Bigogwe (The Breast of Bigogwe) rock formation. The trail takes you through local villages and lush forest paths up to a spectacular 500-foot cliff viewpoint. On clear days, you can see all the way to Mount Karisimbi, the Gishwati Forest, and across to the DRC.

12:30 PM: You enjoy lunch featuring freshly harvested local dishes (sweet potatoes, roasted maize, beans) and local cheeses. After lunch, you will be welcomed into the community by dressing in a traditional Shuka (cowboy wrap) and being presented with an Inkoni (wooden herding stick). Later, you return to Isange Paradise Resort.

Gorilla Trekking and Ellen Degeneres Campus of the Diana Fossey Gorilla Fund

After your breakfast at your lodge, you will meet our driver and be driven to the park headquarters to meet your guides for the mountain gorilla trekking activity,

After completing all the park formalities, you will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime experience of trekking mountain gorillas. Once you spot them, you are allowed to spend one hour watching them do their daily activities in their natural habitat.

After the trek, you will have lunch at Gorilla Cafe at Ellen DeGeneres Campus. After lunch and a short break, you start a self-guided tour into the conservation gallery at Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. You explore the interactive exhibits and the 360-degree theater to learn about gorilla conservation history. After the visit, you return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Isange Paradise Resort.

Golden Monkey Trekking and Return to Kigali

Early breakfast and check-out from the lodge.

07:00 AM: You return to the Kinigi park headquarters for your second briefing, this time focusing on the endangered Golden Monkeys, which are endemic to the Albertine Rift.

08:00 AM: You enter the lower bamboo forests. Golden monkeys are highly active, Playful primates that live in large habituated troops of up to 100 individuals. They constantly leap through the bamboo branches and forage on the forest floor right around you, making for incredible, fast-paced action photography. You will have one hour watching them in their natural habitat

11:30 AM: You conclude the trek and return to the park base.

12:30 PM: You enjoy a celebratory lunch in Musanze town.

02:00 PM: You begin the scenic 3-hour return journey back to Kigali, dropping off at your hotel of residence or the airport for your onward flight.
