Situated at an altitude of 1,910 meters (6,200 feet) above sea level, the lake’s fresh waters are surrounded by thick papyrus reeds, once famously used by the ancient Egyptians in the making of paper.
Lake Naivasha is a paradise for bird lovers, with over 400 bird species recorded in the area, making it one of Kenya’s premier bird-watching destinations. The lake is also a popular getaway for Nairobi residents, who visit to enjoy activities such as boating, sailing, water skiing, and fishing.
Unlike many African lakes, Lake Naivasha has no crocodiles due to its cool waters caused by the high altitude. However, the lake is home to a large population of hippos that can often be seen resting in the water or grazing along the shores.
