Tsavo West – Springs, Volcanoes & Wilderness

Tsavo West – Springs, Volcanoes & Wilderness

Your safari begins with a journey into Tsavo West National Park, Kenya's most diverse wildlife sanctuary. Upon arrival, you settle into your mid-range lodge and enjoy a satisfying lunch. The afternoon unveils the park's wonders, starting with the legendary Mzima Springs – an oasis where over 227 million litres of crystal-clear water surge daily from volcanic rocks, believed to flow underground from the Chuyulu Hills. Here, you can observe hippos and crocodiles through an underwater viewing chamber. The park's volcanic terrain offers more than wildlife – from ancient lava flows to hidden waterholes teeming with life. As evening descends, return to your lodge for a delicious dinner and overnight stay beneath African skies.

Tsavo West Full Day – Roaring Rocks & Crater Views

After breakfast, you embark on a full day of discovery with a packed lunch. Visit the Roaring Rocks, named for the fierce winds that howl through them, offering breathtaking panoramic views over Tsavo from a dramatic 98-metre rock face. Poacher's Lookout provides similar vistas, once used by rangers to spot illegal hunters. The volcanic Chaimu Crater, less than 200 years old with its striking black coke composition, invites exploration – you can climb its slopes for extraordinary perspectives. Watch for klipspringers, the nimble antelope known locally as mbuzi mawe (mountain goat), perfectly adapted to rocky terrain. In the southwest, Lake Jipe straddles the Kenyan-Tanzanian border, its waters attracting abundant birdlife. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
