Begin your adventure with a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Mekele, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. Meet your professional guide and expedition team before driving toward the Afar region through changing landscapes of mountains, dry valleys, and remote villages. After a safety briefing and preparation, continue toward the Danakil area and enjoy your first desert experience while learning about the unique environment and culture of the Afar people.
This is a (semi) participation tour, and guests may help with simple activities such as organizing personal camping items, setting the table, assisting with basic meal preparation, and keeping the campsite tidy. Our experienced expedition staff will handle the main camp operations, including setting up tents, preparing meals, cleaning, and packing equipment.

Erta Ale Volcano Trek & Overnight Desert Camp

Travel deeper into the Danakil Depression toward Erta Ale Volcano, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. After sunset, begin a guided nature walk/hike and trek through the dramatic volcanic landscape with local guides and security support. Reach the summit area and witness the glowing lava lake, creating an unforgettable natural experience.

Spend the night at Erta Ale Base Camp in a desert camping setup.
