Windhoek to Okaukuejo | First Encounter with Etosha Wildlife

After an early departure from Windhoek, your self-drive adventure begins as you travel north through changing landscapes and small towns, offering a first glimpse into everyday Namibian life. Along the way, stop at a local craft market to browse handmade artworks, wood carvings, and colourful fabrics created by local artisans. By early afternoon, you arrive at Etosha National Park, one of Africa's most iconic wildlife sanctuaries.

Enter the park and enjoy a self-drive game drive en route to the Okaukuejo Rest Camp, taking your time to explore the vast salt pans, open savannahs, and wildlife-rich waterholes. Keep an eye out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, springbok, and a variety of other plains game, with the possibility of spotting predators along the way. Upon arrival at the Okaukuejo campsite, set up your camp, prepare dinner, and relax beneath Namibia's spectacular star-filled sky while soaking in the unique atmosphere of Etosha National Park.

After checking in at your campsite, spend the afternoon enjoying an optional quad biking adventure across the rolling dunes of the Namib Desert. Alternatively, explore Swakopmund's waterfront, cafés, local shops, and historic streets at your own pace, or simply relax and enjoy the refreshing coastal climate.
