Arrival in Kigali

Welcome upon your arrival at the airport by Attractive Safaris and transfer to the Carmelite Sisters.

If time permits, Kigali City tour or rest after such a long flight.

Overnight at San José Carmelo of the Carmelite Sisters in Kigali.

Kibeho is the only site of Marian apparitions in Africa Recognized by the Vatican. Many pilgrims from different horizons of the world gather in Kibeho on the occasion of the different Marian solemnities and feasts celebrated at Kibeho.

On the Way to Kibeho

Get in touch with the Catholic Church in Rwanda

Driving time: about 4 hours 30 minutes

Early breakfast.

7:00 a.m.: Drive to Kibeho, the site of the apparitions of the Mother of the Word

Along the way:

- Visit to the Minor Basilica of Kabgayi in the Diocese of Kabgayi, the country’s first mission, founded in 1905 during the German East Africa era

- Visit to the Shrine of the Merciful Jesus in Ruhango, inaugurated by the Pope’s envoy to Rwanda on April 27, 2014. Here in Ruhango, on the first Sunday of every month, more than 50,000 pilgrims from all corners of Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC, and Uganda gather in search of Divine grace.

- Stop in Save to visit the first Catholic church built in Rwanda in 1900.

Lunch in Butare City

Then continue straight on to Kibeho (30 min)

- Explore the Kibeho apparition site, the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows, and the Chapel of the Apparitions, and watch the video about the Kibeho apparitions

- Meet and talk with the Father Rector of the Shrine.

A full day of prayer in Kibeho

After breakfast,

After breakfast, continue exploring the site and praying at the place of the apparitions, the chapel of the apparitions, the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows, and various paths of prayers.

If possible, meet and talk with the visionary who lives in Kibeho, Nathalie Mukamazimpaka.

Lunch at your hotel

After lunch, visit the Center of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception in Nyarushishi and pray while contemplating the statue of Divine Mercy. Since 2004, a giant bronze statue of the Merciful Jesus, weighing 2 tons and measuring 16 feet high, has been located in Nyarushishi at the Marian Formation Center of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception (2 km from Kibeho). This statue has a wonderful story to discover. Since then, a visit to Nyarushishi has become a must for pilgrims coming to Kibeho.

Drive back to Kigali

Immersed in Rwandan Culture and History

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. On the way, visit the ethnographic Museum of Butare. It is believed that this museum is one of the most Africa’s finest ethnographic collections, artistic, and artifacts accompanied by visual aids, giving visitors a rich insight into the culture of Rwandans.

After lunch in Butare town, drive to Nyanza and visit Rukari King’s palace for monarchs and learn more about the diversity of Rwandan culture and lives in the past years.

Then, drive back to Kigali.

End of the Pilgrimage.
