Welcome to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, a city of over four million people set high in the hills at over 2,300 meters. Your guide will meet you and help you settle in at your hotel. Today is a relaxed day to rest after your flight. You can visit the National Museum, home of the famous fossil called Lucy, or simply rest and enjoy the mild highland weather. Your guide will explain the days ahead, which include time in the warmer, lower areas east of the capital, so pack some lighter clothing too.

Drive east from Addis Ababa into the Great Rift Valley toward Awash National Park. In the afternoon, take a game drive through the park's dry grassland and acacia woodland, looking for animals such as Beisa oryx, greater kudu, Soemmerring's gazelle, and many kinds of birds, including the impressive ostrich. The Awash River cuts through the park, creating a green strip of life in an otherwise dry landscape. Overnight near the park.

Continue driving east, passing through the city of Dire Dawa, toward Harar. Founded over a thousand years ago, Harar is one of the oldest Islamic cities in Africa and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its old walls, narrow winding alleys, and more than 80 small mosques packed inside the city walls. Take a guided walk through the old town, visiting local markets full of spices, baskets, and colorful textiles. Overnight in Harar.

Drive or fly back to Addis Ababa, arriving in the evening after your journey through the east. Along the way, take a last look at the changing scenery, from the dry lowlands around Harar back to the green highlands of the capital. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by Origin Abyssinia at a local restaurant in the capital, a relaxed way to end your trip with good food, coffee, and conversation with your guide, reflecting together on the wildlife, history, and traditions you have seen over the past days.

Free Time in Addis Ababa & Departure
Enjoy a free morning in Addis Ababa after your journey east to Awash and Harar. Depending on your flight time, you may have time for last-minute shopping, a traditional coffee ceremony, or a short visit to a local market or museum. Your guide will take you to Bole International Airport in good time for your departure flight, bringing your journey through Ethiopia's wildlife and old trading cities to a close.
