Arusha – Muheza – Amani Nature Forest Reserve

Your journey begins early in the morning with departure from Arusha by scheduled public coach to Muheza via Moshi and Tanga. Enjoy views of northern and eastern Tanzania before arriving in Muheza in the afternoon.
From Muheza, continue by local minibus or taxi through the scenic East Usambara Mountains to Amani Nature Forest Reserve. Upon arrival, check in to your accommodation and enjoy time to relax before dinner.
After dinner, embark on your first guided night walk through the rainforest. Using headlamps, search for nocturnal reptiles and amphibians including chameleons, frogs, geckos, snakes, and a variety of forest invertebrates.

Full-Day Herpetology Exploration

After breakfast, begin a full day of guided field exploration along rainforest trails, forest streams, and the historic botanical gardens.
Your guide will help locate endemic species while explaining their ecology, behavior, and conservation significance. During the day you may also encounter colorful birds, butterflies, primates, and unique rainforest flora.
Following lunch, continue wildlife surveys in different forest habitats before returning to the lodge for dinner.
In the evening, enjoy a second night herping excursion when many amphibians and reptiles become active after sunset.

Amani - Muheza - Arusha

After an optional early morning nature walk through the rainforest and breakfast at the lodge, depart Amani Nature Forest Reserve and travel by local transport to Muheza town. Enjoy scenic views of the East Usambara Mountains and surrounding villages along the way. Upon arrival in Muheza, board the afternoon public bus to Arusha. Relax during the journey as you pass through the landscapes of northeastern Tanzania, with a short stop for refreshments en route. Arrival in Arusha is expected in the evening, marking the end of your memorable Amani Rainforest Herpetology & Nature Adventure, filled with unique wildlife encounters and unforgettable rainforest experiences.
