Day 2
Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha is the busiest and highest of Kenya's Rift Valley lakes. The lake has a fascinating history, as a weekend escape for the wealthy during the colonial era. These days, it serves a similar purpose for a refreshingly diverse cross-section of Kenyan society. There is lots to do along the southern shore, and keep an eye out for hippos, zebras and giraffes.
You'll be staying at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort, which sits in a lovely position just beyond the northern shore of Lake Naivasha. It's one of Kenya's most celebrated golfing resorts, and the location is ideal for getting to know this part of the Great Rift Valley. The rooms have classic-style decor, and amenities include a bar, restaurant, pool and massage center.

Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National Park
You're in for a real treat when you visit Lake Nakuru National Park. It's one of the best places anywhere for seeing both black and white rhinos, but there are other highlights as well, including the possibility of seeing lions (some even climb trees here), leopards, flamingos and endangered Rothschild's giraffes. Rich birdlife, pretty acacia forests, and a towering escarpment overlooking the lake all add to the natural drama.
You'll stay in a quiet area away from the main road, not far from both the city of Nakuru and Lake Nakuru National Park at Punda Milias Nakuru Camp. Trees fill the garden area and there's a restaurant. Accommodation comes in many shapes and sizes, from cottages and rooms in the main building to simple safari tents. Relax in the swimming pool.

We think you'll love the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the best places to watch wildlife anywhere in Kenya. You're almost guaranteed to see plenty of predators, including lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas. With so many impalas, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes and other prey species here, as well as over 500 bird species, you'll see plenty of safari action. Black rhinos are possible in the Mara Triangle. Also everywhere are elephants, giraffes and hippos, and everyone who visits falls in love with the Masai Mara's classic safari landscapes. Evening Game Drive, Masai Mara National Reserve Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it's also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals.
