Day 1
Arrival in Lushoto
Arrival in Lushoto
Arrive in Lushoto and check in at your hotel. Take some time to relax and settle in after the journey. Later, meet your guide for a short briefing about the trek, including the route and what to expect during the hike.
In the afternoon, set out on a scenic hike to Irente Viewpoint. The walk is about 15 km in total and takes you through the beautiful countryside, with peaceful trails, green hills, and views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. If the weather is clear, the viewpoint is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset and take in the scenery.
After the hike, return to Lushoto either on foot or by vehicle, depending on how you feel. Check back into your hotel, relax, and spend the night in Lushoto.
Day 2
Trek Towards Mazumbai
Trek Towards Mazumbai
After breakfast, start your trek towards Mazumbai, located on the eastern side of the West Usambara Mountains.
The walk takes you through local villages and farmland. Along the way, you will pass through Kwadoe and Hehangala villages. You will also see small tea farms and visit the Herkulu Organic Tea Estate.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the top of Vuluni village, where you can see beautiful views of Bumbuli and the East Usambara Mountains. You will also have a chance to see and learn about the daily life and traditions of the Wasambaa people.
Continue the walk and spend the night in a community-based homestay in Kwalei.

Day 3

After breakfast, continue your walk to Mazumbai through Mbokoi village. From the top of the ridge, you will enjoy excellent views of the surrounding area and meet local people along the way.
As you continue, you will enter the beautiful Mazumbai rainforest. This is a great place for birdwatching and nature lovers. You may also see black-and-white colobus monkeys in the forest.
Mazumbai Forest Reserve covers about 320 hectares and is an important area for nature conservation and education. The forest rises from around 1,350 meters to about 1,900 meters above sea level, with different types of vegetation at different heights. Mazumbai is also known as a very good place for birdwatching.
After exploring the forest, continue to Mazumbai Rest House for dinner and overnight.

Day 4
Mazumbai to Bumbuli and Back to Lushoto

After breakfast, begin your trek from Mazumbai to Bumbuli, following scenic mountain trails through picturesque villages and lush countryside. Along the way, enjoy beautiful views of the Lwengera Valley, surrounded by rolling hills, green farmland, and the stunning landscapes of the Usambara Mountains.
Continue along the peaceful mountain paths, taking occasional breaks to appreciate the scenery and capture memorable photographs. The trek offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the natural beauty and rural lifestyle of the area.
Upon reaching Bumbuli, enjoy your lunch and take some time to relax after the trek. After lunch, meet your private vehicle and begin the comfortable drive back to Lushoto, enjoying the changing mountain scenery along the way.
Arrive in Lushoto and check in at your accommodation. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing and recovering from the day's adventure. Enjoy a peaceful evening and spend the night in Lushoto.

Departure to Dar es Salaam or Other Destinations in Tanzania

After breakfast, you will have some time to relax and prepare for your onward journey before being transferred to the bus stand in Lushoto town. From there, you can board a public bus to your next destination, either Arusha or Dar es Salaam, depending on your travel plans and preferred route.
As you leave the beautiful Usambara Mountains behind, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the changing landscapes and experience more of everyday life in Tanzania as you travel by road. The journey offers a chance to see local villages, towns, farmland, and the scenic countryside along the way.
