Begin your journey from Addis Ababa and travel through the beautiful Ethiopian highlands, passing rural villages, farmland, eucalyptus forests, and scenic mountain landscapes. Arrive at historic Debre Libanos Monastery, one of Ethiopia’s most important centers of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot. Explore the monastery and learn about its fascinating history, religious traditions, and cultural importance. Continue to the sacred cave associated with Saint Tekle Haymanot and discover the spiritual traditions connected with this holy site. After a traditional Ethiopian lunch overlooking the highlands, visit the historic Portuguese Bridge and enjoy spectacular views of the Jemma River Gorge. Take a short walk, capture beautiful photographs, and look for Gelada baboons and highland birds.
