Arrive in Antananarivo, where you will be met and transferred the short distance to Nosy Manga Hotel for your first night in Madagascar. This is deliberately an easy beginning to the journey, giving you time to settle in after your international flight before travelling east towards the rainforests of Andasibe the following morning.

Andasibe and the lemurs of Madagascar

Leave Antananarivo with your private driver and guide and travel east towards Andasibe for three nights at Vakona Forest Lodge. As the city falls away, the landscape becomes increasingly rural before giving way to the forests of eastern Madagascar.

Spend two full days exploring Andasibe with experienced local guides. Walk through the rainforest in search of indri, Madagascar’s largest living lemur, whose remarkable calls carry through the forest. Look for other lemur species, colourful chameleons, frogs, birds and the extraordinary smaller wildlife found only on the island. There will also be opportunities to explore after dark, when nocturnal species become active, and visit Vakona’s private reserve.

Three nights gives you time to experience Andasibe properly rather than rushing through the forest before continuing north to the Indian Ocean.

Indian Ocean at Eden Lodge

Leave Andasibe and return towards Antananarivo for your flight north to Nosy Be. On arrival, continue by road and boat to Eden Lodge, a small ecolodge set on a secluded beach surrounded by forest and the waters of the Indian Ocean.

Spend four nights here with the freedom to slow the pace completely. Swim and snorkel in the warm waters, explore by kayak, walk along the beach or simply relax at the lodge. Optional excursions can take you further into the surrounding marine environment, while the remote setting and small scale of Eden make it easy to enjoy the natural surroundings without needing to fill every day.

Four nights gives you three complete days beside the ocean, providing a relaxed contrast to the rainforests of Andasibe and a wonderfully unhurried ending to your Madagascar journey.
