Johannesburg to Pilanesberg and Tsholo Safari Lodge

Guests are collected from their nominated hotel, residence or OR Tambo Airport in an air-conditioned MoAfrika vehicle and travel west towards Pilanesberg, with one comfort stop en route on the roughly two to two-and-a-half hour journey. On arrival, the group transfers into an open safari vehicle for a three-hour morning game drive inside Pilanesberg National Park, a malaria-free, Big 5 reserve set within an ancient volcanic crater, exploring volcanic hills, dams and open grassland with an experienced MoAfrika ranger. After the drive, guests are transferred across to the Black Rhino side of the reserve and check in at Tsholo Safari Lodge for a welcome lunch, followed by free time to swim, relax on a viewing deck or book a spa treatment. In the late afternoon an electric safari vehicle departs for a silent sunset game drive tracking elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo, with a sundowner stop as the light fades, before returning after dark for dinner at the lodge.

Full Day at Tsholo Safari Lodge, Black Rhino Reserve

An early wake-up call with tea, coffee and rusks precedes a sunrise game drive in one of Tsholo's electric safari vehicles, exploring the Black Rhino and Greater Pilanesberg area while the reserve is at its quietest, before returning for a full breakfast at the lodge. The middle of the day is left free for guests to enjoy the pools, viewing decks, gym and yoga spaces, or to book a treatment at the Amani Spa set in the Tambotie forest; a guided bush walk can also be arranged at an additional cost, subject to availability. In the late afternoon a second electric-vehicle game drive heads out for sunset viewing, with a sundowner stop as darkness falls, before guests return to the lodge for dinner served in the restaurant or boma, weather permitting.

Final Game Drive and Return to Johannesburg

A final early wake-up with hot drinks precedes the last electric-vehicle sunrise game drive through the Black Rhino and Greater Pilanesberg area, followed by a full breakfast back at the lodge. Guests check out around mid-morning, with luggage stored if needed, and have time to relax around the lodge or book a last-minute spa treatment at an additional cost. MoAfrika Tours collects guests from the lodge at around 11h00 for the return transfer east to Johannesburg, arriving back at the nominated drop-off point - hotel, residence or OR Tambo Airport - around mid-afternoon, traffic dependent, bringing this two-sided Pilanesberg and Black Rhino safari to a close.
