Located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the crater supports an extraordinary density of wildlife, with more than 120 mammal species, including the legendary Big Five. Descending to the crater floor in an open-top safari vehicle, you’ll have exceptional opportunities to observe and photograph Africa’s iconic animals in a remarkably compact setting.

Predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas are frequently seen, alongside large populations of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, and Cape buffalo.

During the dry season, large numbers of animals migrate from the surrounding Maasai steppe in search of water, creating exceptional game-viewing opportunities within a relatively small area.

Tarangire is also known for hosting rare species such as the greater kudu, fringe-eared oryx, and the ashy starling, which are seldom seen elsewhere in Tanzania.
