Arrive in Nairobi and settle into Eka Hotel Nairobi. Your safari team will talk you through the next four days, answer practical questions and confirm the morning departure. Use the rest of the day to rest after your journey and prepare for the road ahead. This is an arrival day, with no game drive included. Tomorrow you leave the city for Lake Nakuru before continuing to the open landscapes of the Masai Mara.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Leave Nairobi after breakfast and travel to Lake Nakuru. Arrive at Lake Nakuru Lodge for lunch, then join your guide for an afternoon game drive. Explore the park's woodland, grassland and lakeshore, looking for rhinos, buffalo, giraffes and birds. The interest lies in the mix of habitats and the animals you encounter, rather than a promised number of flamingos. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay; bird numbers and wildlife sightings vary with conditions.

Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, travel towards the Masai Mara with your lunch boxes. This is a road-transfer day, followed by an afternoon game drive as arrival time and road conditions allow. Your guide will introduce you to the plains and look for wildlife along the safari route. Take time to watch the first sightings that catch your attention before continuing to Masai Mara Sopa Lodge for dinner and the first of two nights.

Explore the Masai Mara on morning and afternoon game drives, with time to follow recent sightings and learn from your guide. Look for lions, elephants, giraffes and the many grazers that share these plains. When migration herds are in the area, your guide will seek opportunities to observe them; their location and any river crossing are determined by the animals. Return to Masai Mara Sopa Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay. The day is rewarding beyond a single headline sighting.
