We can pick you anywhere in the Johannesburg or Pretoria region, including the airports. The journey to Pilanesberg is through some of the most interesting landscapes in South Africa, from many perspectives, scenic, historical and economical. We'll pass through the world's second-oldest mountain range, past where mankind's earliest traces can be found and through the world's richest platinum bearing region. Our destination, the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. It lies in the remains of a 1 200 million-year-old volcano.
We can depart as early as 7:00 am and this will enable you to stop on the way at some interesting locations mentioned in the introduction (entrance fees may apply).
Arrive at Shepherd Tree Lodge for lunch and check-in, if time allows take a short stroll in the protected grounds, or take a quick dip, then gather for afternoon tea. At around 3.00 pm, depart for your first safari drive. All of Africa's iconic creatures are to be found here including the Big Five roaming free.

Pilanesberg Safari and Return to Johannesburg Using Another Scenic Route
After a night in the clear clean air of the African bush, you'll wake up refreshed and ready for your morning safari with fellow guests and experienced game rangers in pursuit of exciting encounters.
Your ranger will stop for morning coffee at a safe alighting spot, perhaps a waterhole with crocodiles and hippos, and other animals coming down to drink.
The open safari vehicles used are perfectly safe to view animals. Animals see the vehicle only, which is of no interest to them, and not the passengers in it.
Pilanesberg is in the transition zone between the wetter and more arid regions of South Africa and species from both zones occur here. Springbok, brown hyena, for instance, are not found in the Kruger National Park. Similarly, sable and impala are not found in the drier Kalahari.
Return to the lodge for breakfast and later check out. You have the option of taking a private safari drive followed by lunch at Bakubung Lodge before returning to Johannesburg or Pretoria.
