Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Once you arrive at the gate, you will wait for your permits and after receiving them will officially begin ascending to the first hut (mandara hut) as you start ascending through the montane forest. You may come across blue and Colobus monkeys. You will also hear a lot of bird sounds. You will be sleeping at Mandara.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Camp

You will come across small shrubs as well as fairy-tale giants like groundsel and the giant lobelias. You will also have the first view of Mawenzi. You will have dinner and spend the night at Horombo hut

Horombo Hut

On this day you can either rest at the huts or take a stroll up to the Mawenzi base camp then return to the Horombo Huts. This extra day will help your acclimatization and further your understanding of the mountain's weather and altitude. After your pause, you will continue up to Kibo Huts your fourth day for your midnight start to the summit.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After a good night's rest and breakfast, you will trek past the last water point to reach the saddle area, a great desert between the two peaks Mawenzi and Kibo. An early dinner and overnight at Kibo hut.

Kibo Huts to Summit to Horombo Hut

This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. It will also be very cold until you start descending, so you will need to have all of your warm layers. The goal is to climb before dawn so that you can reach Uhuru Peak shortly before or after sunrise.
You will switch back up steep scree or possibly snow, and reach Gilman’s Point on the crater rim at 5,861m. Between 4 and 6 am. At this point, you will have views of the fabled crater and its icecaps facing you. We strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles for uncooperative loose gravel and volcanic ash terrain.

Horombo to Marangu Gate

After a long sleep, you will be awakened for breakfast and pack, and continue your descent through the moorland to Mandara Huts. Here you will have lunch then proceed your triumphant recessional down through the lush forest to Marangu Park gate.
After the gate sign-out, a vehicle will take you back to the hotel where it is time for your certificate presentation
and celebration!
After your hiking, we will drop you off at your hotel in Arusha.
