Amboseli means "salty dust". Expect some wind in the afternoon hours that gathers dust into the air. It is from this phenomenon that the local Masai community gave this name to Amboseli, describing what really happens because that dust actually salty. But that will not stop you from enjoying this great park.

Hippos lay lazily just near the swampy water ways relaxing after a long night feeding in the grasslands. It is along these water ways that you will drive around watching them. These are nice hunting grounds for the cats too and off course sources of drinking for the rest of the animals. A drive along such locations will definitely yield to some great spotting.
