Arusha to Tarangire National Park

You will leave Arusha after breakfast with a picnic lunch packed safely away for later. The Rift Valley landscape will drift past as your guide drives towards Tarangire National Park. This is the least visited reserve on the itinerary, but one capable of delivering fantastic game viewing. Tarangire is home to Tanzania’s biggest elephant population. It also supports large numbers of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and many antelope species. This is most evident during the dry season, when concentrations of animals at the life-giving Tarangire River are at their peak. You’ll stop at a picnic site and enjoy your lunch with breath-taking views of the park’s landscape and the river below you. Maybe you’ll have some company from elephants drinking and digging water from the river’s sand banks! After lunch you’ll continue your game drive into the late afternoon before driving to Fanaka lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Manyara Area to Serengeti National Park

After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge and then depart for the Serengeti with a packed lunch in hand. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park. It is also a world heritage site and was recently proclaimed as one of the seven wonders of Africa. The park is famed for its annual migration, when some 1.5 million zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, and wildebeest hooves pound the open plains in search of fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant, giraffe, topi, impala, and Grant’s gazelle. Over two day we will explore the plains, water holes, kopjes, and rivers in search of wildlife. The eastern plains of Namiri and the Gol-kopjes offer excellent cheetah and lion sighting. Our campsite is in the heart of it all, set on a high elevation and offering an excellent view of the plains from your doorstep.

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast you will leave the Serengeti—but you’ll still enjoy a game drive along the way. You might be able to spot the “Big Five” — lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard—before finishing your journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals here roam freely through the unfenced reserves, offering you an uninterrupted game viewing experience. At the edge of the crater you’ll have your first glimpse of what awaits you the following day—glistening streams, open grassland, and an infinite number of animals. You will spend the night at the Simba campsite.

Ngorongoro Crater Tour to Arusha

Ngorongoro Crater Tour to Arusha

You’ll leave your camp very early in the morning and descend 610 meters to the grasslands of the crater floor, an area of about 265 square kilometers. Despite its small size, the crater is “Big 5” country, and the openness of the terrain makes for easy and rewarding game viewing. You will spend the day exploring the crater floor, stopping to picnic on the grasslands amidst the grazing herds. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption, Ngorongoro is the world’s largest intact and un-flooded caldera. It provides a year-round home to an astonishing 25,000 large mammals, including black rhino, wildebeest, and zebra—as well as Africa’s densest concentrations of hyena. The crater’s forests shelter elephant and buffalo, while its wetlands are home to hippos and flamingos. Meanwhile, lions, jackals, leopards, and caracals make up the full range of predators living here. In the late afternoon you'll drive back to Arusha, where you will be dropped off at your accommodations or the airport.
