Day 1

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we will collect you from your hotel and drive along a scenic route to Tarangire National Park. The beauty of the park will offer you unparalleled game viewing!

During the dry season, elephants abound and strip the bark from thorn trees. You will also see the trunks of ancient baobab trees across the landscape. Breathtaking views of the Maasai Steppe and mountain in the south make a stopover at Tarangire a memorable experience. You can see herds of animals like elephants, zebras, buffaloes, and oryxes who venture from Masai National Reserve to Tarangire in search of water. There are also a few lions prowling around looking for unexpecting prey around the jungle. There are more breeding species of birds found in Tarangire National Park than anywhere else on the planet! Later in the afternoon, after launch, we drive to Twiga Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Tarangire National Park to Arusha via Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we are off on the next leg of our journey to Ngorongoro Crater, the eighth wonder of the natural world. Along the way, we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area—a region created to accommodate the grazing needs of the Masai people's livestock and a unique test of the idea that humans leading a pastoral lifestyle can coexist with wildlife. We arrive on the crater's rim and descend 2000 feet into the giant caldera of this extinct volcano. This magnificent natural amphitheater contains the largest concentration of animals in Africa! Prides of lions, black rhinos, and elephants share this land with the legendary Masai tribespeople. Because the grasses are short, game is easily spotted and can be approached quite closely. We spend a splendid morning on the crater floor observing wildlife in this ageless World Heritage Site. After lunch at the hippo picnic site, we continue on a game drive en route as we ascend the crater driving back to Arusha.
