Johannesburg to Hoedspruit, Transfer and Sunset Safari

You depart OR Tambo by shared shuttle, approximately six hours to Hoedspruit. After check-in at the lodge, the Rietspruit Big 5 Game Reserve field guide collects you for your first drive.

The sunset safari takes you into the reserve as the afternoon heat drops and the light shifts. Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, cheetah, and wild dog are all resident on the 5,500-hectare property. Access is restricted to select concession operators, no public traffic and no crowded sightings. You stay until the sighting is done.

Dinner is served under the trees on the dining deck.

Full-Day Open Vehicle Safari, Kruger National Park

Your Shinzelle guide collects you early for the 45-minute drive to Orpen Gate. Central Kruger is one of the most productive wildlife areas on the continent. Your guide knows the waterholes, the seasonal movements, and the dense riverine bush where leopard hold. The vehicle is open-sided with full sightlines, elevated above the grass.

Mid-morning breakfast at a rest stop inside the park. Safari continues until a lunch break at a main rest camp. Lunch is included. Back on the road after lunch until you exit the gate at around 15:00.

Sunrise Safari, Leisure Time and Sunset Night Safari

Tea and coffee at the lodge before a 3-4 hour sunrise safari in Rietspruit Big 5 Game Reserve, with a stop in the bush for refreshments. Return to the lodge for breakfast.

The middle of the day is yours. Pool, spa, bar, lounge, and gardens are all available. Lunch is included.

High tea is served in the late afternoon before the sunset safari, which continues into the evening with spotlights on in search of nocturnal species. Sundowners in the bush before returning for dinner on the dining deck.

Panoramic Route, Blyde River Canyon and Boat Tour

Most operators include a single viewpoint stop on the road from Johannesburg and call it a panoramic tour. This is the full version. Departing at 08:30, your guide takes you through a complete day on the escarpment above the Blyde River Canyon, one of the world's largest green canyons.

Five stops and a boat cruise: Bourke's Luck Potholes, the Three Rondawels viewpoint, Lisbon Falls, God's Window, and a boat cruise on the Blyde Dam. Lunch in Graskop. You return to the lodge at approximately 16:00.

Sunrise Safari and Return Transfer to Johannesburg

The final morning begins before sunrise. Tea and coffee at the lodge, then back into Rietspruit Big 5 Game Reserve for the dawn drive. The coolest hour, the quietest roads, and the animals finishing the night. Nocturnal species still active. Predators on their last move before the heat sets in. Most guests tell us this is the best drive of the trip.

After the safari, breakfast at the lodge. Your shuttle departs mid-morning for OR Tambo, approximately six hours. Additional nights before or after the tour can be arranged on request.
