Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha
Have your breakfast early in the morning and then descend 600m to the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is a self-dependent ecosystem, home to carnivores and herbivores like antelopes. If lucky, you may see all of the Big 5 in Ngorongoro (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo). At Magadi Lake, several waterbirds are found including beautiful flamingoes, herons, pelicans, etc.
The Lerai Forest is the home of baboons and monkeys, elephants, bushbucks, waterbucks, and even leopards. The size of the crater floor is 260 sq km. The Munge River is the source of fresh water in the area. Here, you will find swamps and see hippos, and in the open areas, you will see grazing animals. Go to the picnic site in the afternoon where you will see hippos up close. Later, have an en-route game drive as you ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha.
