Day 1

Arrival

Arrival

Karibu! Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be met by our Massawe Adventures team who will assist you as you arrive in the country - enabling you to begin your Tanzanian tour stress-free, and in style. You will be driven to Chanya Lodge for your first night on tour.

Chanya Lodge is situated just outside the bustling town of Moshi, known most for being one of Tanzania's coffee-production hubs and home to some fantastic local markets. There are a variety of different restaurants around the town that would be the perfect welcome to your safari adventure, in addition to numerous experiences that will make your first night on tour one to remember.
The simple things in Moshi appear otherworldly. The town itself is vibrant, yet peaceful, with an enviable serenity and picturesque quality (particularly as Kilimanjaro dominates the skyline surrounding the town). Between June and October, when the sky is clearest, evenings in Moshi are quite something.

Materuni Water Falls

Materuni Water Falls

After breakfast, you will be met by the Massawe Adventures Tour Guides and driven in a private vehicle to the Materuni Waterfalls. The Waterfall has a reputation for wowing visitors with spectacular views and a memorable atmosphere.

The Local Tour begins in the village by observing the entire process of coffee making as it goes from seed to mug (a treat to tantalise the senses). A lunch will be prepared for you with local produce before you head off to explore the Materuni Waterfalls. The Local Tour involves around 8km of walking throughout the day (including 300m of incline) - a great warm-up ahead of our safari tour. The waterfalls themselves are a natural beauty to behold. Measuring at an impressive 150 meters, and surrounded by greenery and local wildlife, the Materuni Waterfalls are a must-see for our Pride Of Tanzania Safari Tour.

Following this wonderful welcome to Tanzania, you will retire to The Greenside Luxury Cottages.

Day 3

Serengeti

Serengeti

Your drive from Karatu to the Serengeti will wind you through wide green hills and flat lowlands. The land stretches to the horizon in all directions, interrupted only by small towns and Maasai huts. The travel through Tanzania is just as mesmerising as the programmed activities!

Once you’ve crossed into the Serengeti, you’ll be on a game drive as you drive towards camp. The southern section of the park is covered with flat or gently rolling grasslands - occasionally dotted with rock kopjes. Rock kopjes are home to populations of resident game. Big cats love to have a good vantage point and the kopjes provide that. Massive herds of wildebeest call this southern section home in birthing season, before moving farther north. When moving across the Serengeti, these animals are rather special to witness.

What’s around you will depend on where you’re staying in the park. You'll be staying at the Into Wild Africa tented lodges within the national park so that you're at the heart of it all!

Main Destination:
Serengeti National Park
Best Time To Visit January to February and June to October (Different areas are best at different times)
High Season July to March (The Seronera area is crowded)

Day 4

Serengeti

Serengeti

Every year, two million wildebeest and zebra migrate from the plains of the Serengeti to the grasslands of the Masai Mara in Kenya, in search of ground to feed. The most sought-after time to see this natural spectacle is from July to October, when the herds congregate on the banks of the Mara River, their final obstacle before reaching the fertile ground.

Driven by instinct and the smell of rain, the wildebeest and zebra take the dangerous plunge into the river. Those who escape the surging waters and gigantic crocodiles must stay alert enough to avoid the big cats waiting on the far side. The herds will graze in the Masai Mara for a time, splitting into groups that cross and re-cross the Mara River. Eventually, they will wander back south through the Serengeti.

The migration can be seen every month of the year, starting with the calving season in southern Serengeti from January to March. Planning your safari will depend on your interests and your budget.

Central Serengeti National Park
Accommodation:
Central Serengeti Luxury Camp
  • Mid-range tented camp located inside Central Serengeti

Day 5

Serengeti

Serengeti

Not all animals in the Serengeti migrate. Away from the millions of wildebeest on their journey, resident game thrives.

Big cats are territorial and will often live in one area throughout their lives. The way they inhabit areas of the Serengeti is beautiful to witness. Elephants like to stay as far away from the chaos of the migration as they can get. Your experienced tour guides will know the best places to see these amazing creatures in their natural habitats. While the migration is a natural phenomenon that wildlife lovers dream of seeing, there are isolated, quiet areas of the Serengeti waiting for you.

Wherever you are in the park, having a private guide and vehicle allows you to make your own schedule. This final day in the Serengeti will give you the opportunity to map out just what you'd like to see and do. You can game drive as far as possible in a day, taking a picnic lunch with you. Or, you can choose to explore more leisurely, coming back to camp for lunch and a rest.

Northern Serengeti National Park
Accommodation:
Into Wild Africa Tented Camp
  • Mid-range tented camp located inside Serengeti NP
Meals & Drinks:
  • All meals included

Day 6-7

Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro

Days six and seven of our Safari Tour begin with an early morning game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. You’ll be at the park gates by 6.00am, and your day starts with views over the largest intact volcanic caldera (the structure left behind following a volcanic eruption). The sheer size of the crater makes it difficult to comprehend the height of the towering walls, but the wind and clouds are the clearest indicators.

Home to a concentrated population of wildlife consisting of an estimated 30,000 animals (including The Big Five) the Ngorongoro Crater is an essential part of the Serengeti's ecosystem. The rim of the crater sits around 610 metres (2,001 feet) above the crater floor, and you’ll begin your descent to view zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and lion - potentially even the critically endangered black rhino.

While at the Ngorongoro Crater, we can also take you on a walking tour where travellers often enjoy exploring the bird life.

Main Destination:
Ngorongoro Crater
Best Time To Visit June to October (Wildlife viewing is best)
High Season Most of the year – July to March (Expect crowds)

Day 8

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we depart for Tarangire National Park – the sixth-largest national park in Tanzania. You will have the opportunity to spend the afternoon spotting wildlife in this quieter wildlife haven featuring a wide variety of habitats.

Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. Here, you will be able to witness majestic herds of elephants playing and bathing in the Tarangire River - while we hope you will also see Giraffes, Buffalos, Gazelles, and Zebras. Over 545 species of wild animals have been spotted at Tarangire National Park; this is a fantastic chance to spot some of Africa’s most loved wild animals.

The lower visitor numbers add to the authentic safari experience, something our guests have been known to love.

Main Destination:

Kikuletwa Hotsprings Water

On the penultimate day of the tour, we will take you to the magnificent Kikuletwa Hot Springs.

Kikuletwa Hot Springs (alternatively known as ‘Maji Moto Hot Springs’ or ‘Chemka Hot Springs’) is a hidden gem along Arusha and Moshi. This scenic oasis is surrounded by a miniature jungle – the perfect destination for you to enjoy a relaxing bath or swim following your Safari adventure; little fish may even give you a gentle pedicure if you hold still and would welcome that!

Visiting the Kikuletwa Hot Springs is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The refreshing water, and shady spots for bathing, offer a serene end to this classic tour. While we encourage adventurers to independently explore the area, having the opportunity to relax in this unique setting is just as valid a way of spending a day at the springs. There are waterfalls close by that you can wander to and experience.
