Arrival

You will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. Refresh and you will begin your sightseeing of Addis with a drive up to Entoto for a panoramic view of Addis. Descend down and drive to the National museum where you will have a chance to spot the oldest hominids of the ‘Lucy’ fossil. Visit and proceed to the St. George Cathedral built right after the battle of Adwa. Finally to the Ethnographic museum, which used to be the palace of Emperor Hailesellase.

Fly Addis to Mekele then drive to Hawzen

You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Mekele. Be met upon arrival and drive to Hawzen visiting en route the semi rock-hewn church of Wukro Cherkos. Then proceed to Abraha Atsbeha, the first church in Ethiopia. Its interior is painstakingly decorated. Proceed to Yohannes Makudi, one of the early Ethiopian Coptic Christian churches which are accessed via a narrow cleft between towering sandstone walls.

Excursion to Mariam Korkor and Dugum Selasse

This day you will drive to the foot of Geraltha to visit the monastery of Debre Mariam Korkor, which dated back 6th century. After a few minutes’ walk from Mariam korkor you can visit the small rock church known as Abba Daniel's Prayer room. Then drive back to Hawzen visiting en route the Dugum Sellase, one of the oldest monasteries dated back to 4th century.

Excursion to Debre Tsion Abune Abreham and Mariam Berakit

After breakfast you will drive and then trek to Debre Tsion Abune Abreham Monastery which entirely carved from the living rock. Here you will get a chance to see one of the oldest cerimonia fan umbrella made out of the skin of cow completely covered by old religious paintings. Then you will drive to Mariam Mariam Berakit, one of the oldest monasteries dated back to 4th century.

Excursion to Abune Yemata – Drive Mekele

Today is the last day in Hawzen and you will you drive to Megeb and will hike up to the monastery of Abune Yemata, one of the nine saints who came to Ethiopian to expand Christianity. Walk back and begin your journey to Mekele for your flight back to Addis. In the evening attend a folkloric dinner where you will have a chance to taste several national dishes and watch dances of the various ethnic groups of Ethiopia. The traditional coffee ceremony will also be served. Later you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
