Zanzibar Airport - Serengeti National Park

You will use your own transport to Zanzibar Airport for your flight to Serengeti, departing at 07:35 and arriving in Serengeti at 10:50. On arrival at Seronera Airstrip, meet your professional and well-experienced local English-speaking safari driver-guide. After greetings, he will give you a short pre-safari briefing and then embark on a game drive in Serengeti National Park for a chance to see the great herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles or a pride of lions lounging in the shade.

The Serengeti, one of the largest parks in Africa at 15,000 square kilometers, is home to some 3 million large mammals and is made up of a diversity of landscapes. The southern region is dominated by the lush grassy plains that draw about 2 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra and some 250,000 antelope to make the hazardous journey in search of pasture when the autumn rains come.

Lunch, dinner and overnight are at Kontiki Serengeti Camp.

Safari in Serengeti National Park

The great migration (also referred to as the "Serengeti Migration") is arguably the greatest wildlife show on earth. It is the largest single movement of wildlife on earth in search of water, pasture, and breeding grounds. Other than the great migrating herds we seek, we may also see cheetah, lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, wildebeest, hartebeest, topi, eland, crocs, Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelle, amongst many more. With over 500 bird species identified, the park is a veritable ornithological paradise - ostriches abound, along with secretary birds, marabou storks, and the largest flighted bird on Earth, the kori bustard. We will seek out these creatures with the keen intuition and experience of our "wild guide". After lunch, we will drive to Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay at Kankari Lodge.

Karatu - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we collect a picnic lunch and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We descend 2,000 feet (over 600 meters) to the floor of the crater (more precisely a caldera). This 304-square-kilometer enclosed ecosphere was formed some 2 or 3 million years ago in the massive explosion of a volcano once higher than Kilimanjaro, and offers the best game viewing opportunities in all of Tanzania.

Explore the forest areas inhabited by monkeys and elephant, the lake area, where you may see the flamingos and the open savannah where lions hunt. With some 25,000 large mammals within the caldera, you will have the opportunity to see, in addition to the "Big Five" (elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo, and leopard), animals such as wildebeest, gazelle, reedbuck, bushbuck, hartebeest, hippo, antelope, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle, impala, to name a few, as well as over 500 bird species.

Late afternoon, drive to Arusha for dinner and overnight at Pazuri Inn.

Arusha - Materuni Waterfalls - Zanzibar

After breakfast, depart for Materuni Waterfalls and enjoy a guided walk through the scenic landscape. Learn about Chagga culture and village life, swim at the base of the falls, and return to Materuni Village for a traditional lunch, banana beer tasting, and a coffee tour with local songs and dances. You will also take part in preparing and tasting your own coffee. Later in the afternoon, transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar.
