Depart Nairobi early, driving north through the central highlands and passing lush coffee and tea plantations en route to Samburu. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, set along the Ewaso Nyiro River. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive in this rugged, semi-arid reserve known for its "Samburu Special Five"—Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx—along with elephants, lions, and leopards. Return for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Samburu National Reserve-Ol pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, nestled between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges. Arrive for lunch at the lodge before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is famed for its high rhino population, including the last two northern white rhinos, and offers the chance to spot the Big Five. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary (extra cost) and learn about their rescue mission. Return to the lodge for dinner and a night under the stars.
