Day 1

Game drive in Arusha National Park

Game drive in Arusha National Park

Your taste of the African wilderness safari begins after you are picked up from the airport or hotel in Arusha. We drive to Arusha NP with picnic lunch boxes.

Arusha NP covers Mount Meru, a prominent volcano with an elevation of 4,566 m, in the Arusha region of northeastern Tanzania. The park is small but varied, with spectacular landscapes in 3 distinct areas.

The park has a wide variety of wildlife, but visitors shouldn't expect the same game-viewing experience as in other national parks of Tanzania's Northern circuit. Despite the park's small size, common animals include giraffe, Cape buffalo, zebra, warthog, black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkey, flamingo, elephant, bushbuck, and many other African animals.

By midday, you will break for a picnic lunch, and after lunch, the safari will continue. By early afternoon, at 4.30 pm, you will exit the park and head to your hotel. It is time to relax, dine, swim and relive the memories you collected during the day.

After an early breakfast, you will check out from the hotel in Arusha and head straight to Tarangire NP.

Tarangire NP is in the Manyara region. The park's name originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. During the annual Dry season, the river is the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire ecosystem. Ranking as the 6th-largest national park in Tanzania and covering an area of 2,600 sq km, Tarangire NP is most famous for its large elephant herds. Here, it is usually very dry and actually drier than the Serengeti.

In the afternoon, you will have a lunch break. After lunch, the game drive continues until you start returning to your accommodation in the Karatu region. It is time to relax, dine, swim, and relive the memories you collected during the day.

Ngorongoro is the world's largest caldera, filled with grassland, forest, and swamps. The Maasai share this awesome area with their cattle. It has been a separate conservation area since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. It is indeed the flagship tourist attraction of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It’s home to the vast population of the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino). Vast herds of wildebeest and zebra traverse its plains during their annual migration.

Visit to Lake Eyasi and the Hadzabe community

After breakfast, head to Lake Eyasi and enjoy the views of this expansive lake, which ends up being an unexpected highlight for many travelers. Lake Eyasi is the homeland of the Hadza, a hunter-gatherer people, many of whom still live traditional lives.

You will visit a Hadzabe community where they will demonstrate some of the traditional aspects of the life and culture of Tanzania’s last hunter-gatherer group. This is a particularly unique experience as this community continually struggles to protect their indigenous way of life. Guests are encouraged to be mindful of this issue.

They survived primarily by hunting and foraging for food. You will experience some of the traditional aspects of their lives.

Around midday, you stop and enjoy your lunch in the tranquility of the crater. After lunch, the game drive continues until you return to your lodge in the afternoon. It is time to relax, dine, swim and relive the memories you collected during the day.
