Day 1

Transfer to Lake Kariba, Embark Sailing Catamaran

Transfer to Lake Kariba, Embark Sailing Catamaran

Transfer to Lake Kariba and set sail. Your driver will pick you up in Harare for the 8-hour drive to Lake Kariba. Embark your personal sailing catamaran and head off across the lake. Sleep on or below decks in the wilderness with elephants dotting the shoreline. Tikki Cats are easy-to-sail so you will learn quickly under the guidance of our expert skipper. Once you have tasted the pleasure of free forward-momentum from the wind, you will be hooked and soon enough you will be operating the tiller and seeking out the wind yourself.

1. This is a participatory trip, you will be expected to help sail the boat under the guidance of your very experienced skipper, this is half the fun.
2. Sailing and route are subject to weather conditions at the sole discretion of your skipper based on his assessment of current and forecast weather. If necessary, we will arrange alternative Kariba accommodation.
3. Have a few beers but if you are planning a huge binge, take a houseboat!

Day 2

Sail the Matusadona National Park

Sail the Matusadona National Park

Sailing is weather-dependent, but it might be nice if you could aim for a specific goal, such as reaching the Kota-Kota Narrows, far off the beaten houseboat track.

A wide-brimmed hat, loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirt, swimming costume, sarong to wet and wear, lots of suntan lotion, and sunglasses. You'll stay hydrated, and deliberately increase salt in your diet to avoid dehydration! In dry heat, your sweat evaporates and you don't realize how much salt you lose. The rate for the sailing portion is all-inclusive: boat hire, zimparks fees, and fuel (yes, you will need some!). Guide, soft drinks, meals, snacks, and boat hire. Excludes alcohol which you can organize at the Kariba kiosk before sailing.

Sail Remote Parts of Lake Kariba

By day 3 you should be at the outer limits of where most houseboats range, you should have the lake largely to yourselves with 360-degree horizons of wilderness. The freedom you have never experienced before. You'll revel in it and enjoy getting your propulsion direct from nature for free (well, almost free, you will need to tighten a few ropes here and there!).
