Day 1

Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve

Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve

This budget safari adventure explores the best Kenyan national parks and a Great Rift Valley lakes trip. It starts from Nairobi with a pick-up from the airport or your hotel by 08h00. We will drive along the floor of the Great Rift Valley, stopping at the viewpoint to take some photos and learn about its formation. We will have lunch en route. We'll arrive in the Masai Mara in time for an extensive game drive exploring the park.

The world-renowned Masai Mara, highly known for its rich game, forms the northern extension of the famous Serengeti plains. These plains are full of countless wildebeest, zebra, and water buffalo. Elephant, giraffe, warthog, lion, cheetah, hyena, and jackal are also likely to be seen. The Mara’s numerous antelope species include hartebeest and topi, among others. The white-browned robin chat’s lovely song will wake you in the morning and call you to your room in the evening. Dinner and overnight are at Miti Mingi Eco Camp.

Day 2-3

Masai Mara National Reserve Exploration

Masai Mara National Reserve Exploration

We spend these 2 days exploring the Masai Mara in search of the Big 5 with the possibility of seeing the annual wildebeest migration. This budget trip includes an optional hot-air balloon safari, which can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 500 pp.

Dinner and your overnight stay are at the Miti Mingi Eco Camp.

The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe; over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, wild dogs, buffalos, leopards, many kinds of antelopes and elephants. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna - lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vulture.

Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru National Park

Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru National Park

Leave the Mara behind and drive north into the Rift Valley proper, arriving at Hillcourt Resort & Spa, under an hour from Lake Nakuru's gate.
An afternoon game drive brings you along the alkaline shoreline where flamingos gather by the thousand — and with a professional birding guide leading the way, you'll spot far more than the pink crowd along the water. Rhino, both black and white, and Rothschild's giraffe round out one of Kenya's most rewarding half-day circuits.

Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha - Leisure Experience

Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha - Leisure Experience

Today slows down on purpose. Drive to Lake Naivasha, Kenya's freshwater jewel of the Rift Valley, where the only thing on the agenda is the water itself. Take an optional boat cruise across the lake, gliding past pods of hippo and fish eagles perched along the shore, then step onto Crescent Island for an optional unguided walking safari among giraffe, zebra, and waterbuck — one of the only places in Kenya you can walk freely among wildlife with no predators around (Crescent Island entry: $35 per person). Overnight at Leisure Apex Resort, near Hell's Gate.

Optional: Lake Naivasha boat cruise | Crescent Island walking safari ($35pp).

Hells Gate National Park - Amboseli National Park

Hells Gate National Park - Amboseli National Park

Morning belongs to Hell's Gate — Kenya's only park where you explore on foot or by bicycle, cycling or hiking beneath towering volcanic cliffs and through the same gorge that inspired scenes in The Lion King, alongside zebra, giraffe, and buffalo with nothing but open air between you (cycling safari available as an optional add-on). By midday, you're back in the vehicle for the long haul south to Amboseli — a real drive, no sugarcoating it — arriving by late evening in time for dinner and a well-earned rest at Amboseli Mountain View Camp, with Kilimanjaro waiting for you at first light.

Amboseli National Park Discovery

Amboseli National Park Discovery

Have breakfast and then proceed for a full-day game drive. On this day, you will have a packed lunch to maximize your game drive for the whole day.

Amboseli National Park is located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The snow of the mountain forms a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya’s most popular spectacular displays of wildlife - lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo, and a host of plains game. This creates Kenya’s most sought-after photographer’s paradise. Mount Kilimanjaro is the backdrop of this elephant haven, and you will not be disappointed by this first-class safari experience.

You will be able to get up close and personal with these African icons (and a host of other wildlife species) from the safety of your pop-up canopy safari vehicle.

You can hike Observation Hill, which provides an ideal lookout at the plains and swamps below. You will then have dinner and overnight at Amboseli Mountain View Camp.

On this day, you will also have an opportunity to visit the famous Kilimanjaro base for climbing from the camp.

Thereafter, return to the camp for lunch, and then leave Amboseli and head back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon. You will be dropped off at the hotel or airport to catch up with your outbound flight.
