You’ll end the day at Machame Camp, nestled at around 3,000 meters above sea level, where you’ll spend your first night under the stars.

Day 2
Machame Camp to Shira Camp

On Day 2, your trek continues from Machame Camp to Shira Camp. As you leave the rainforest behind, the landscape transforms into moorland, offering sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. The trail is steeper today, with a steady ascent along a rocky ridge. You’ll cover approximately 5 kilometers over 4–6 hours, gradually gaining altitude and helping your body adjust to the increasing elevation. Upon reaching Shira Camp, located at around 3,840 meters, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. The evening is perfect for relaxation, stargazing, and preparing for the days ahead.

Today’s trek offers a mix of physical challenge and spectacular scenery. You’ll make a steady ascent to Lava Tower, reaching an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters. Here, you’ll pause for lunch—an important part of the day’s acclimatization process. Afterward, the trail descends to Barranco Camp, located at around 3,960 meters. Covering a distance of about 10 kilometers, this route helps your body adjust to the altitude while treating you to dramatic landscapes and panoramic mountain views throughout the day.

Day 4

Perched at around 4,600 meters, the camp sits in a stark alpine landscape, offering dramatic views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers. Upon arrival, you’ll rest, enjoy an early dinner, and receive a thorough briefing from your guides. The focus now shifts to preparation, both mentally and physically, for the challenging summit night ahead.

Summit – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and back to Mweka Camp

Summit day begins in the early hours of the morning, typically around midnight. With headlamps lighting the way, you’ll ascend steadily through the cold, dark hours toward the summit. The climb to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters — is the most demanding part of the trek, both physically and mentally. But as the sun rises, you’ll be rewarded with unforgettable views and a deep sense of accomplishment as you reach the roof of Africa.
After spending a short time at the summit for photos and celebration, you’ll begin your descent back to Barafu Camp for a brief rest and meal. From there, you’ll continue down to Mweka Camp, located at approximately 3,100 meters.

Day 7
