Nairobi to Masai Mara – The Great Migration Plains

Nairobi to Masai Mara – The Great Migration Plains

Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Settle into our comfortable 4x4 safari vehicle for a scenic drive towards the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve (approx. 4-5 to 5 hours). We'll stop at the breathtaking Great Rift Valley viewpoint, a perfect photo opportunity!

Arrive at your Masai Mara camp in time for a delicious lunch. Then, brace yourself for the first thrilling game drive in the Mara! As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara remains one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa.

As the sun sets, prepare to witness the Mara come alive with nocturnal activity, a unique experience that will surely intrigue you. Return to your lodge for a well-deserved dinner and overnight stay at Miti Mingi Eco Camp (or similar).

The Masai Mara National Reserve remains one of the most exciting wildlife ecosystems in the natural world. It hosts the highest and most varied concentration of wild animals compared to any other regional wildlife park.

Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the savanna, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African bush. Continue your game drive, venturing towards the Mara River, where you might witness hippos, crocodiles, and, if you're lucky (July-October), the spectacular great migration.

An afternoon game drive brings you along the alkaline shoreline where flamingos gather by the thousand. With a professional birding guide leading the way, you'll spot far more than the pink crowd along the water. Rhinos (both black and white) and Rothschild's giraffes round out one of Kenya's most rewarding half-day circuits.

Lake Nakuru & Lake Naivasha – Geysers & Boat Rides

Today slows down on purpose. Drive to Lake Naivasha, Kenya's freshwater jewel of the Rift Valley, where the only thing on the agenda is the water itself.

Take an optional boat cruise across the lake, gliding past pods of hippo and fish eagles perched along the shore, then step onto Crescent Island for an optional unguided walking safari among giraffe, zebra, and waterbuck. It is one of the only places in Kenya you can walk freely among wildlife with no predators around (Crescent Island entry: $35 per person).

By midday, you're back in the vehicle for the long haul south to Amboseli — a real drive, no sugarcoating it. Arrive by late evening in time for dinner and a well-earned rest at Amboseli Mountain View Camp, with Kilimanjaro waiting for you at first light.
