Day 5

Under the cover of night, as the lava ash remains frozen and eases your steps, your summit attempt begins. Guided by the stars, you’ll ascend past Hans Meyer Cave at 5,200 meters. As sunrise breaks, you’ll proudly reach Gilman’s Point (5,715 m) on the crater rim. The warmth of the sun fuels your final push, and after 1 to 2 more hours, you’ll stand at Africa’s highest point: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
The descent follows the same path. Now softened by the sun, the lava ash allows a swift return to Kibo Hut, where a hearty meal and rest await. After a 1 to 2-hour pause, you’ll continue your journey down to Horombo Hut (3,700 m).
