Transfer from Entebbe to Hotel

We're as excited as you are to get started on your Ugandan safari. After an introduction to your guide and a few brief formalities, it's time to get out there and find the animals for which Uganda is so famous.

As the site of Uganda's main international airport, the small but historic town of Entebbe is the obvious springboard for travel elsewhere in Uganda. We always enjoy this appealingly low-rise town, with its sprawling colonial-era golf course, lovely botanical garden alive with tropical birds and monkeys, and leafy setting on the shore of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest inland sea.

One of the few African safari destinations that can be explored by car, by boat or on guided walks, the 3,480km² Murchison Falls National Park is dominated geographically by the Nile River and the 43 m-high waterfall after which it is named. Here you can be confident of seeing elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, waterbuck, hartebeest, oribi, Uganda kob, crocodile and a good range of aquatic birds. With a bit of luck, you might also encounter lion, leopard, patas monkey and the bizarre stork-like shoebill.

Track Uganda's only Rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here you will see the white rhinos, which are larger than the black rhinos, but are unaggressive.

Beyond its spectacular cascade, Murchison Falls National Park provides a diverse range of activities, making it one of Uganda's best safari locations. Visitors may take game drives over the undulating savannah to see elephants, lions, leopards, and the rare Rothschild's giraffes. Hippos, crocodiles, and innumerable waterbirds, including the rare shoebill stork, may be seen up close on a boat tour along the Nile. The park is also home to over 450 bird species, making it a birdwatcher's delight. Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo Forest and guided nature walks provide further information about the park's different ecosystems. Murchison Falls provides a memorable safari experience with its unique combination of animals, stunning scenery, and river-based thrills.

Flamingos and other wading birds use salt-encrusted crater lakes as a seasonal feeding area. There are also extensive areas of rainforest populated by chimps, enormous forest pigs, and other monkeys.

However, this biodiverse Unesco World Heritage Site allows you to see a variety of other rare wildlife, including acrobatic Rwenzori colobus, the multicoloured Rwenzori three-horned chameleon, and 20-odd bird species found only in the Albertine Rift Valley forests.
