You are expected to arrive in the Masai Mara around midday, where you’ll check in at Miti Mingi. While the camp is not located inside the reserve, it lies right on the border, offering panoramic views of the wildlife-rich plains and is just a short drive from the Ololaimutia Gate.

Day 2

Full-day in Masai Mara National Reserve

Full-day in Masai Mara National Reserve

This day is dedicated to a full immersion in the vast Masai Mara National Reserve, renowned for having the highest wildlife density in Kenya. The reserve is home to over 1,000 lions (out of the approximately 2,800 found across the country) and is the only park where you have high chances of finding the big cats in your first two game drives.

Our focus is on the early morning hours, when the plains come alive with activity and both nocturnal predators and diurnal grazers are roaming the open landscapes. If interested, this is also the moment to go for a hot air balloon safari — one of the most rewarding safari activities.

The rest of the day is spent on extended game drives. You’ll enjoy a packed lunch at one of the scenic picnic sites, continuing your adventure through the afternoon in search of more incredible wildlife encounters. Being home to a high density of four of the Big Five (rhino missing), we hope you will have met the four by the close of the day.

You are expected to arrive in Nakuru around 11:00 AM, where you'll check in at Punda Milia Camp. While, like most budget-friendly accommodations in the area, the camp is not located inside the national park, it is set outside Nakuru town to preserve a natural, bush-like atmosphere.

After settling in, you'll enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. This game drive will close the search for the Big Five, as you'll encounter a significant population of both white and black rhino. Lake Nakuru boasts the highest density of these two endangered subspecies within a national park in Kenya.
