Nairobi to Samburu

Depart early from Nairobi at 7:00 AM. You will be picked by a comfortable van and enjoy a scenic drive which will take approximately 6 hours, you will drive through central Kenya’s lush highlands and make a short stop-over in Nanyuki for a refreshing mid-morning break. Snap a photo at the Equator marker and enjoy light shopping for artisan crafts. Arrive in Samburu National Reserve by early afternoon and head straight to Sarova Shaba Game Lodge for check in, lunch and unwinding before heading out for a sunset game drive where with luck, you may spot the rare “Samburu Special Five” including the Grevy’s zebra and gerenuk. As dusk falls, return to the lodge for dinner under the stars, serenaded by the sounds of the bush. Overnight at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge.

Samburu National Reserve

Rise early for a morning game drive at around 6:30 AM when the animals are most active. The cooler hours reveal big cats, herds of elephants, and a symphony of birdlife along the Ewaso Nyiro River. At 9:30 AM return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and relaxation time, perhaps a dip in the pool or a leisurely nature walk around the property. In the afternoon, enjoy lunch at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge and thereafter embark on another evening game drive or a guided cultural encounter with the local Samburu community, gaining insights into their traditions and attires. Samburu to Nanyuki

Check out from Sarova Shaba after breakfast and drive south to the Laikipia Plateau, where savannah gives way to highlands. Arrive at Sarova Maiyan in Nanyuki for lunch with views of Mt. Kenya. Enjoy an afternoon game drive at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, meet Baraka the blind rhino, explore Morani Centre, and see the last two northern white rhinos. Return for dinner and stargazing. Overnight at Sarova Maiyan.
