Depart from Moshi or Arusha and drive to the Rongai Gate, near the Kenyan border. After registration, begin your trek through lush forest, where you may spot monkeys and exotic birds. The trail gently ascends to Simba Camp, located in the heather zone with views of the plains below.

Continue hiking through moorland, with wide views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. You'll reach Second Cave Camp, your resting place for the night. This helps with gradual acclimatization.

Today’s route turns toward the jagged peak of Mawenzi, Kilimanjaro’s second-highest summit. The trail leads through semi-desert terrain to the more secluded Kikelewa Camp, nestled in a sheltered valley.

A short but steep hike takes you to Mawenzi Tarn, located beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. The camp is dramatically set near a glacial lake. You’ll have time to rest or take short hikes to help with acclimatization.

Day 5

Cross the barren, lunar-like landscape known as The Saddle, which stretches between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The trail ascends gradually to Kibo Hut, your base for the summit attempt. After dinner and a rest, prepare for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.

Begin the summit attempt at midnight, trekking through the dark, cold volcanic scree to Gilman’s Point (5,685m). From there, follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the top, descend to Kibo Hut for brunch and continue down to Horombo Hut for your last night on the mountain.

Habitat: Moorland to Rainforest
Descend through the moorland and into the forested slopes of Kilimanjaro, returning to Marangu Gate. Here, you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for rest and celebration.
