Day 1

Ishasha Safari – Encounters with Kobs, Topis, Buffalo & Elephants

Ishasha Safari – Encounters with Kobs, Topis, Buffalo & Elephants

Early morning flight from Entebbe to Kihihi, then transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth NP.
Your game safari begins immediately—before check-in! On your first drive, you’ll spot Uganda kobs in mating displays, topis on lookout mounds, and buffalo in water-rich areas. Warning calls and galloping retreats bring the savannah to life. Later, a herd of elephants grazes nearby. Ranger Vincent explains their need for 150–200 kg of food daily, feeding up to 16 hours. Their visible tusks signal strong anti-poaching efforts. You reach your lodge by late afternoon.

Day 2

Ishasha safari – On the trail of tree lions and leopards

Ishasha safari – On the trail of tree lions and leopards

Today, your private Parc Ranger Vincent, takes you to the southern Ishasha sector—a denser, more forested area with hanging lianas and mossy trunks, marking the transition to the Bwindi montane forest. This ecological zone is ideal for both birds and big cats. Leopards and Ishasha's famously tree-climbing lions often rest in fig or acacia trees. Vincent knows their favorite spots. With luck, you may spot a lion pair lounging just 20 meters away—perfect for a photo from your open-roof vehicle.
Leopards may also appear, perched on high branches where they drag prey to avoid hyenas. Even without a leopard sighting, birdlife is dazzling: Ross’s turacos, starlings, weavers, palm-nut vultures, and fish eagles brighten the canopy. On a small hilltop, you pause for birdwatching. Vincent points out saddle-billed storks, hammerkops, and shy francolins.
A rich day in the wild, full of surprises.

Day 3

Along the Ishasha River – A Safari Full of Wildlife

Along the Ishasha River – A Safari Full of Wildlife

The Ishasha River marks the natural border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Flowing through Queen Elizabeth and Virunga National Parks, it forms a vital wildlife corridor.
Its papyrus swamps are home to rare species like the papyrus gonolek—and with luck, even the elusive shoebill. Hippos rest in the water by day and graze at dusk. Lions and leopards hide in the riverine thickets, while elephants rely on the river for their daily water needs.
This is more than just a river—it’s the lifeline of a wild, remote region where nature thrives undisturbed. Stay alert: With patience, you might spot rare animals like the pangolin or bat-eared fox. That’s the beauty of a slow safari—taking time for the unexpected.

Transfer (120 km) into the homeland of the mountain gorillas

Transfer (120 km) into the homeland of the mountain gorillas

After a final morning game drive in Ishasha’s open savannah wilderness (950m above sea level) marked by fig trees, grasslands, and iconic tree-climbing lions—you begin your journey toward a new world. The road winds through green hills into the dense ridges of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You steadily climb to around 2,100 m above sea level. The higher you go, the lusher it gets: lianas, ferns, and mossy trunks frame the path, while towering mahogany trees close the canopy overhead.
This region, on the eastern slope of the Albertine Rift, is one of the world’s most biodiverse highland rainforests. The air grows cooler and damper, often filled with mist and new sounds—dripping leaves, calling turacos, humming insects.

In the afternoon, you arrive at your lodge at the edge of Bwindi’s UNESCO World Heritage site.

Main Destination:
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Gorillas)
Best Time To Visit June to August and December to February (Gorilla trekking is easiest)

Day 5

Gorilla Tracking – The Heart of Your Fly-in Slow Safari

Gorilla Tracking – The Heart of Your Fly-in Slow Safari

In Ruhija, on the eastern edge of Bwindi Forest, you’ll track one of three habituated gorilla families:

Bitukura – around 14 members, playful juveniles, calm silverbacks.
Oruzogo – full of energy, with lively young gorillas always on the move.
Kyaguriro A – led by silverback Rukara, about 15 members, often seen up close.

After a guided hike through mossy forest, tree ferns, and tropical vegetation, a deep silence settles in. Then—there they are. Gentle, powerful, and strangely familiar. The young tumble and play while the silverback keeps quiet watch over his group.

You spend about one hour in their presence—unforgettable, and deeply personal. Back at the starting point, your ranger hands you a personalized certificate, a lasting memory of this extraordinary day.

Ruhija’s cool climate (16–21 °C), misty mornings, and fresh mountain air make it one of the most atmospheric places for gorilla trekking in the cloud forest.

Encounter with the Batwa - the forest trough different eyes

See the forest and its animals through the eyes of a Batwa hunter!
A Batwa guide will take you on a nature walk through the forest. Equipped with a bow and arrow, he will shoot rabbits and bush rats for home cooking. He will explain how the poison used to coat arrows is extracted, as well as the leaves and grasses used to combat fever, disinfect wounds, and relieve diarrhoea.
Upon returning to camp, you'll prepare a traditional meal with the Batwa women and experience how openly and warmly you'll be welcomed, despite all the poverty. Uganda is more than just wildlife and a national park! Encountering a Batwa family is an excellent opportunity to get to know the people of Uganda!

Fly-out back to starting point of your travel

Early morning transfer to Kihihi (80km, 2-3 hrs drive) where your comfortable domestic flight back to Entebbe awaits at Kihihi Airstrip.
From an altitude of between 2,700 and 4,000 meters, you'll experience a stunning bird's eye view of lakes, forests, and savannahs. The direct flight to Entebbe, a distance of 317 km, takes approximately 1 hour. However, Aerolink does not specify whether you will arrive directly or with a stopover in Entebbe. Flight times may therefore vary.
Upon arrival in Entebbe, we'll say goodbye, Karibu nyumbani, and wish you a safe onward international flight. Of course, you are free to end the day with a fish dinner on Lake Victoria, a Shoebill game drive by boat across Lake Victoria, or a relaxing stroll through the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, and wait until the following day for your return flight to Europe. We are happy to book these options for you upon request.
Thank you for traveling with us.
