3-Day Gorilla, Golden Monkey Trekking and Boat Ride

Golden monkey trekking

Your guide will pick you up at 4:00 AM from your hotel in Kigali for an early start. Begin the scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze, with a short stop for breakfast en route (at your own expense).

Arrive at the park headquarters for a briefing, then begin your Golden Monkey trekking adventure. Hike through bamboo forests with a ranger guide to observe these lively, rare primates in their natural habitat. The trek typically lasts 2–3 hours.

After the trek, enjoy lunch and take time to rest.

In the afternoon, enjoy optional cultural visits to the Gorilla Guardians Village for traditional performances and community experiences, or explore the Dian Fossey Museum to learn about her legacy in gorilla conservation.

In the evening, check into your lodge near Volcanoes National Park, enjoy dinner, and rest in preparation for the next day's gorilla trekking experience.

Gorilla trekking and transfer to Gisenyi

Enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge, then transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. Join your group and ranger guide, then set off into the forest for your gorilla trekking experience—a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The trek can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorilla family's location.

After your unforgettable trek, return to the base, receive your trekking certificate, and head for lunch at a local restaurant or lodge.

In the afternoon, drive to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu (approximately 1.5–2 hours). Upon arrival, check into your hotel, relax by the lake, and enjoy the serene atmosphere.

Have dinner and rest for the night, surrounded by the calm beauty of Rwanda’s western region.

Boat ride and transfer to Kigali

After a relaxed breakfast at your hotel in Gisenyi, head to the shores of Lake Kivu for a scenic boat ride. Enjoy the peaceful waters, explore nearby islands, watch local fishermen, and take in panoramic views of the surrounding hills. The duration of the boat ride can be tailored to your preference (typically 1–2 hours).

After the boat excursion, return to the hotel to freshen up, then begin the drive back to Kigali (approximately 3.5–4 hours).

Arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon or early evening. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or the airport.
